A Season Of Sundays 2020

The 2020 GAA season, like everything this year, has been very different. Although faced with the unknown the GAA in 2020 has taken on a new role in people’s lives. The GAA for so many is a sense of home and familiarity. So, whether you were watching from Perth or from your front room in Mayo, the GAA continues to be a way of bringing everyone from every parish and county together.

Of course, a huge topic in 2020 was the 100-year anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The impact of the pandemic forced the Championship into the winter months, resulting in games being played on the weekend of the anniversary of this event. Both the Dublin and Tipperary football teams marked the occasion with special jerseys. Dublin wore the names of the 14 victims on their sleeves, while the Premier reverted to the green-and-white shirt that they wore in 1920 – the colours of the Grangemockler club.

2020 brought the GAA many challenges but hope and determination conquered them all. From delayed and postponed matches to silent stadiums, the GAA managed to compact the senior GAA championships with Limerick claiming the Liam McCarthy Cup, and an end-of-season final with Dublin VS Mayo.

This year also brought challenges in every aspect of our lives, including here in Carroll’s. We were humbled by the support from our local community in Tullamore and of course our customers nationwide who continue to support us.

When choosing Carroll’s of Tullamore, not only will you enjoy the benefits of over 40 years of crafting excellence as we continue to take our time by slow-cooking all our meats to perfection, producing delicious ham, award-winning poultry, and succulent beef each day. But you will also enjoy contributing to a proud Irish business.

Our support of the Gaelic games also continues in 2021, as we will mark 30 years of supporting Offaly GAA. We are proud to be part of an amazing community and team and hope to be involved for many years to come.

We wish all readers a happy and safe New Year. We hope you enjoy this edition of A Season of Sundays as much as we do and are excited to see what the next season of GAA brings!
